In 1839, the Albion Railway (Canada’s second steam-powered railway) was built, and New Glasgow was incorporated as a town in 1875, shortly after becoming the home of Canada’s first steelmaking plant, the Nova Scotia Steel Company. With a population of just over 9,500 people, the town is known for its beautiful Carmichael Stewart House Heritage Museum, the New Glasgow Riverfront Jubilee and the Race on the River Dragonboat Festival. |
